Is the story of the relationship between a very politically and socially conservative working class Cuban father and Cecilia, his more progressive, college educated American daughter. Cecilia invites her father to visit her new apartment on the campus of USC where she has just been accepted into Law School, in order to announce that she is a lesbian. The conflict is further heightened by the fact that the daughter has inherited Afro Cuban spiritual practices which the father had vehemently rejected as “primitive”, when he came to the United States.
