Residencies

These are ideally suited for week-long (5 days)     programs structured at a college, university or     music school, geared to musicians at minimally an     intermediate level. During the course of the residency participants will become fluent in the “rules of ensemble playing” in the following formats: 1) The Afro Cuban Son Ensemble, 2) The Afro Cuban chekere ensemble, and 3) The Afro Cuban bata ensemble. In addition master classes will be conducted on: the Cuban “tres” guitar, Cuban style piano, bass, brass, vocals, hand percussion, congas, timbales, songwriting, and arranging. The historical/cultural dimension of the music will also be presented. These residencies are highly structured with a specific curriculum that has been presented at colleges, universities and music schools throughout the United States, Canada and Europe. Each residency culminates with a live performance by ODARA.
